Developing Instructional Materials in Multiple Formats

In designing the Chart Your Course: Sailing Mastery module, I prioritized developing instructional materials in a range of formats to maximize engagement and learning transfer. The module includes my own self-produced video to build personal connection and credibility, interactive job aids and printable checklists to support real-world application, and multimedia scenario simulations to immerse learners in decision-making. These elements are embedded throughout the eLearning experience, but are also designed for use in blended or just-in-time learning environments.

Being able to create instructional materials across multiple formats—such as online modules, video, digital and printable resources, and interactive simulations—is essential for meeting diverse learner needs and accommodating different learning environments. It also ensures that learners can access content in the way that best fits their context, whether they are on the dock, at home, or reviewing materials on their mobile device. This versatility is key for instructional design that is both effective and inclusive.
